The Problem. and our solution.

Risk reduction for workers:

Ladders are dangerous. Climbing up a ladder with equipment, unlocking a roof hatch while holding onto a ladder, and climbing back down with equipment is even more dangerous. As such, access to and ingress/egress through roof hatches present real problems. According to OSHA (the Occupational Safety and Health Administration), falls to a lower level pose a significant risk to workers, often resulting in serious injury or even death. In fact, from 2011 to 2012, falls were not only the second leading cause of workplace injury, but also the “most severe” of all work-related injuries. Our patent-pending solution, the BSP1 is designed to reduce the risk of falls to a lower level by allowing workers to operate a roof hatch’s locking and opening/closing mechanisms while standing at floor level—no more clinging to a ladder rung while trying to unlock and open or close a roof hatch.

Our solution, the Patent-Pending BSP 1.0 Roof Access Safety System:

The BSP 1.0 is designed to make roof access quicker, easier, and safer; when installed and used as directed, it can increase productivity while reducing risk.

Features of the BSP1 Roof Access Safety System:

  • Floor-level operating mechanism that allows users to unlock and open a standard manufactured roof access hatch before climbing the ladder

  • Hatch lock feature that prevents the hatch from closing while workers are on the roof

  • Safety handle to make getting out of and back into the hatch easier

  • Bolt-on system that easily attaches to most OSHA standard fixed ladders

Increase productivity:

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that, in 2011, falls to a lower level resulted in a median of 21 days away from work. The BSP1 is a safety system that can potentially reduce the number of falls from roof access ladders. And, because of its safety features, the BSP1 can make regular roof access and maintenance a less worrisome task.

Save time and avoid injury-related costs:

According to the Liberty Mutual Workplace Injury Report, businesses in the United States lose more than $5.85 billion annually due to injuries in falls to a lower level*. The BSP1 can help workers avoid falls that are likely to result in lost time and potential cost to employers.
